Don Cicci Turns a Bedroom Studio Into a Time Machine

"Polpette" does not follow trends, but instead, it carries the echoes of 70s Italy into the underground music scene of today.

The London with a Tube and a gloomy sky exists only in the headphones of Don Cicci, but there’s no gloom. His version is made from old strings and percussion instruments.

“Polpette,” the album by Don Cicci released on March 12, was produced in his home studio. There’s no recording booth and the general language of the industry, it’s just the work of a producer.

The sampling is reminiscent of someone trying to remember something they haven’t lived. For example, the track “Fine Wine” by TY is transformed into something completely new; highly relevant but not considered.

The instrumental part of the album does not explain anything. Rather, it transforms repeatedly from beauty into grit and back, allowing listeners to deal with their own emotions.

He has taken a course in music management at Pointblank. He possesses the patience of an artist when it comes to his use of loops and rhythms. But the diploma provides the explanation for the technicalities and not for the artistry. The artistry is a mix of his musical inspiration, background in trap and R&B, and the status of being Italian without having any inclination to accept it.

Don Cicci calls his record “Polpette” one of the best recordings of the genre. He seems to be right by not being pretentious about that.
