The Coffee Machine That Wouldn't Shut Up

The beginning of "Finish Line" features a sound that many would dismiss in a hurry. In fact, it's the dreadful noise of a struggling coffee maker somewhere in a kitchen in Hamburg, late at night. Iri Antler, however, decided to make it work for her track and turned this raw moment into a song.

Iri is a one-person film crew—writing the songs, producing them, shooting them on an iPhone, and creating the whole environment for "Finish Line," which was released accompanied by a dark short inspired by Little Red Riding Hood.

The song is about the daily routine and the constant feeling of chasing something that can never be attained. It starts softly, with a whispered conversation, but soon after gets transformed into a heavier industrial sound that completely overpowers the initial message.

Antler began her education in fashion in St. Petersburg but never finished and later moved to Hamburg after visiting the city for her birthday. Antler spent five years performing on the street before gaining formal schooling in music. On the way to success, she stumbled on learning production when her friend decided to buy an iPad, which turned out to be useful for Antler’s needs.

She was also nominated for the German Songwriting Award for "Seagulls," which shows that this is not her first attempt to reach the audience. Such artists as Hurts, Florence and the Machine, PJ Harvey, Muse, HIM, Evanescence, Harry Styles, and Regina Spektor have been good music influences for Antler.

The track "Finish Line" illustrates that there is no resolving in music. It is notable for the lack of a key change and just the music that is getting louder and louder.
