Tillerman's "The Son Must Follow The Moon" – A Transatlantic Gospel-Rock Journey

From the quiet suburbs of West Yorkshire comes Tillerman, a band that may not yet be a household name, but their music speaks volumes. Known for crafting outstanding songs, they describe themselves as "the best unknown band out there," and with the release of "The Son Must Follow The Moon," they’re certainly making a case for it.

Tillerman is anchored by the Kulczycki brothers—Jon (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Songwriter) and Tom (Drums, Piano, Backing Vocals). Their musical journey has been a lifelong one, with Jon initially diving into the band scene while still in school, and Tom, seven years his junior, joining the fold as a drummer later on. The two have spent years honing their harmonies, creating a vocal sound that resonates with the familial magic seen in bands like Oasis, The Kinks, and Crowded House.

Joined by long-time collaborators Iain Moyser (Bass) and Shaun Mallia (Lead Guitar), Tillerman brings a blend of classic rock and modern pop, underpinned by deep lyrical storytelling. However, "The Son Must Follow The Moon" features a unique line-up, with Nashville-based session guitarist Nicky Van Hines stepping in to deliver the lead guitar work, giving the track an Americana twist. To top it off, the track features the uplifting voices of the Nigeria-based Itunu Gospel Choir, making it a truly global collaboration.

Tillerman's influences are a broad and eclectic mix. The band's sonic landscape is colored by Jon’s love for The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and Britpop, while Shaun’s guitar work draws from the fiery blues tones of Hendrix, Free, and Led Zeppelin. Iain’s melodic bass lines add a unique flavor, influenced by a love of diverse genres. For "The Son Must Follow The Moon," the band’s desire to blend their British rock roots with an Americana vibe is evident, and Nicky Van Hines, having worked with the likes of Vince Gill, brings a Nashville warmth to the track.

Tillerman’s journey hasn’t been without its twists and turns. After making a name for themselves in the Northern England pub and club circuit, frequenting now-defunct venues like The Cockpit in Leeds, the band took a hiatus in 2012. Careers, family, and the mundane responsibilities of life temporarily pulled them away from music. But in 2019, the band reconvened, this time with a renewed focus on creating the best possible music, aided by producer Grant Henderson at Loom Studio in Leeds.

"The Son Must Follow The Moon" is more than just a song; it’s a layered experience. On the surface, it has an inviting retro feel reminiscent of George Harrison’s later work, but deeper listening reveals a rich narrative and carefully crafted sonic textures. The blending of gospel, rock, and Americana creates a sound that appeals to a wide audience.

And while Tillerman may be flying under the radar for now, with tracks like this, it’s only a matter of time before their music reaches a much wider audience. As Jon quips, “Does your amp really need to be that loud?” Yes, Jon. When the music is this good, turn it up.

Gutsy J’s "Chink of Hope": A Message of Resilience and Faith

In a world where music often serves as an escape, Gutsy J stands out by offering something deeper: a lifeline of hope. Hailing from Los Angeles, this individual artist is carving out his lane with a distinctive fusion of hip-hop and Christian music. His latest single, "Chink of Hope," released on September 17, 2024, is a shining example of his ability to blend faith-driven messages with hard-hitting beats, creating a sound that resonates emotionally while pushing the boundaries of genre.

Recorded at the famed Golden Impala studio, "Chink of Hope" is a testament to the artist’s commitment to his craft. Gutsy J poured his heart into the track, bringing raw emotion and a message of perseverance that is unmistakable. Behind the boards was the talented Darius, who expertly engineered a beat that complements the soul-stirring lyrics. Together, they created a track that feels both personal and universal, striking a chord with listeners who are seeking solace and strength in their lives.

At the core of "Chink of Hope" is Gutsy J’s powerful quote: "No remedy to what you could cope so go to God because He has the antidote." These words encapsulate the profound essence of the song—a reminder that when life feels overwhelming, faith can provide the strength to endure. This is more than just a song about resilience; it’s an invitation for listeners to find hope in their relationship with God, even in the most challenging times.

Gutsy J’s approach to music is refreshingly authentic. Unlike many artists who are influenced by the musical greats before them, Gutsy J remains firmly rooted in his own experiences. His motivation stems not from others, but from a desire to tell stories—stories of people’s lives, of struggles and victories, and his own personal journey. His music is an expression of faith and self-discovery, and "Chink of Hope" is no exception. In the song, Gutsy J reflects on moments of feeling lost and hopeless but clings to the hope that Christ provides, inspiring others to do the same.

The production of "Chink of Hope" is a seamless blend of soulful instrumentation and a modern hip-hop aesthetic. Darius, the man behind the engineering, expertly crafted a beat that elevates Gutsy J’s lyrical delivery, enhancing the emotional depth of the track. From the smooth transitions to the subtle layering of sound, the production feels intentional, creating a sonic experience that draws listeners into the narrative.

As the song reverberates through speakers, it leaves a lasting impact, encouraging listeners to hold on to hope, even when life feels overwhelming. Gutsy J’s music is a reminder that in the darkest moments, faith can light the way, and through Christ, there is always a reason to keep fighting.

Chink of Hope is more than just a song—it’s a declaration of resilience, a reflection of personal faith, and an inspiring call to embrace the light in even the darkest of circumstances. Gutsy J is here to tell stories, share hope, and uplift those who listen, and with this latest single, he’s well on his way to doing just that.

SPIRIT GUN’s “The Status Quo Must Go!”: A Battle Cry in Rock n' Roll

Norfolk, Virginia’s Spirit Gun, the hard-hitting rock trio, is back with their new EP, The Status Quo Must Go!, set for release on September 15th. Known for their razor-sharp sound and an energy that could set any stage ablaze, the band continues to push boundaries with their music, delivering a sonic experience that blends the raw fury of punk, the groove of rock n' roll, and the heart of soul. Spirit Gun has created something special—a record that protests the status quo and invites listeners to take part in the revolution.

Spirit Gun’s lineup includes Peter Overstreet on vocals and guitar, Oren Lev on drums, and Anthony Burgess on bass. Together, this trio has carved out a reputation for their intense live shows, powerful rhythms, and a signature sound that’s equal parts driving melody and relentless energy. Frontman Overstreet’s passionate crooning is underscored by Lev’s hard-hitting beats, while Burgess lays down a thundering low end that ties everything together.

This record isn’t just a collection of songs—it’s a manifesto. “We look at it as a protest album,” says Overstreet. “We are protesting the status quo, in whatever form it takes. The status quo we are protesting might be different from the one you are protesting, but we wanted to give everyone a place for their voice to be heard.”

In a true collaborative spirit, Spirit Gun invited their fans to send in photos of themselves holding signs that reflect their status quo. These images, representing individual voices and struggles, form the evolving artwork for the album—a creative way of bringing fans into the fold. “Protesting can be positive, and that’s what we want it to be,” the band explains. As submissions continue to roll in, the artwork remains a work in progress, symbolizing the constant evolution of change.

Tracks like "The Heist," featuring Raul Perez on baritone sax, and "The Antonym," which was described as a blend of Bloc Party and Gang of Four by American Pancake, showcase the band’s diversity. The songs on The Status Quo Must Go! Carry a clear message: standing up for change is not just important, it’s necessary.

With their EP release and a tour on the horizon in late September, Spirit Gun is eager to bring their message directly to the people. Whether you're ready to protest the world’s injustices or just rock out to some fierce guitar riffs, The Status Quo Must Go! Delivers a powerful experience for anyone ready to challenge the norm.

Cybophonia’s Return with “Nothing More”: A Bold Blend of Acoustic and Electronic Sounds

Cybophonia, the creative alias of Eros Minichiello, is back with a new album, Nothing More, a richly textured and eclectic project that pushes the boundaries of his signature sound. Minichiello, a versatile producer and DJ from Locarno, Switzerland, has long been known for his ability to traverse a range of styles, blending elements of electronic music, chillout, and cinematic soundscapes. This latest album is no exception, showcasing his talent for reinvention while staying true to his creative roots.

Nothing More is a project of creation and artistic reinvention, marking a new phase in Cybophonia’s musical journey. It follows the release of Bloom in 2021, which introduced a refreshed dream-pop sound—a sound that has since evolved into something deeper and more complex. The 13-track album highlights Cybophonia’s ability to marry contrasting elements, offering a kaleidoscopic yet cohesive listening experience.

Dream-Pop Meets Acoustic Guitar: A Signature Sound

A standout feature of Nothing More is its heavy reliance on acoustic instrumentation. Acoustic riffs and guitar arpeggios form the backbone of many tracks, a continuation of Cybophonia’s sonic evolution that started with Bloom. These elements lend a folk-rock twist to his dream-pop foundation, creating a sound that feels both familiar and fresh. Tracks like “The Dark Side of Our Minds” and “Sunday Travel Round,” released as singles earlier this year, showcase this fusion of genres beautifully.

Though rooted in dream-pop, Nothing More ventures into a range of musical styles. The instrumental track “Northern Light” pairs bossa nova-style guitar lines with ambient textures, while “Pluto Breeze” dives into electronic drum and bass rhythms. Meanwhile, tracks like “Old Skool Prayer” bring hip-hop beats into the mix, further showcasing the album’s eclecticism.

The songs themselves also reflect this minimalist approach, with electric guitars often used sparingly to add atmosphere and color, rather than overwhelming the compositions. This restrained use of instrumentation, combined with the diverse range of genres, gives the album its unique sound—a sound that is both refined and emotionally resonant.

In Nothing More, we hear the culmination of years of creative experimentation and growth. It is a bold statement from an artist who is not afraid to push boundaries while staying true to his artistic vision. As Cybophonia continues to adapt to the evolving music landscape, Nothing More stands as a testament to Minichiello’s enduring ability to create music that resonates on both an emotional and intellectual level.

With its rich textures, diverse influences, and introspective themes, Nothing More is an album that invites listeners to embark on a journey through sound—a journey that is as unpredictable as it is beautiful.

Todd Hearon: “Impossible Man” – A New Chapter in Americana and Indie Folk

With the release of Impossible Man, Todd Hearon has completed a remarkable trilogy that started with the critically acclaimed Border Radio in 2021 and continued with Yodelady in 2023. This new album not only showcases Hearon’s continued evolution as a singer-songwriter but also signals a bold new departure for him musically.

Blending his long-standing love of traditional roots music with a more contemporary Americana and indie folk sound, Impossible Man takes Hearon’s music in exciting new directions, all while retaining the deeply reflective and melodic sensibilities that fans have come to love.

At the heart of Impossible Man is a collaboration with legendary producer Don Dixon, famous for his work with early R.E.M. and other indie rock icons. This partnership, which began when Dixon contacted Hearon after hearing Border Radio, has proven to be a perfect match, with Dixon’s production lending a lush and expansive quality to Hearon’s compositions. Recorded at Mitch Easter’s iconic Fidelitorium Studio in North Carolina, the album is an Americana-meets-Indie-folk masterclass, filled with the rich textures and sonic depth of a star-studded band that includes Peter Holsapple, Rob Ladd, Sam Wilson, and Dixon himself.

Hearon’s vocals and acoustic guitar serve as the foundation for Impossible Man, but he is joined by an impressive lineup of musicians who add their own unique flavors to the album. Peter Holsapple, known for his work with The dB’s and R.E.M., lends his versatile talents to piano, Hammond organ, Mellotron, accordion, and mandolin.

Rob Ladd’s skillful drumming and percussion create a driving energy, while Sam Wilson’s electric guitar, pedal steel, and lap steel add layers of atmospheric sound that float between Americana tradition and indie experimentation. Don Dixon anchors it all with his signature bass guitar and backing vocals, while also guiding the album’s sonic direction from behind the producer’s console.

The album’s lead singles—Looking Glass, Paper Flowers, and Guillotine—offer a glimpse into the thoughtful lyricism and emotional complexity that defines Impossible Man.

For fans of Todd Hearon, Impossible Man represents the next chapter in his ever-evolving musical journey. It retains the introspective qualities that have always made his songwriting stand out, while also embracing a broader and more adventurous sonic landscape. With each listen, the album reveals new layers, offering something for both longtime followers and new fans alike.

Suit Up: TRA4DUCE & SILAS1WOLF Set the Stage with Their Electrifying Anthem

TRA4DUCE and SILAS1WOLF are names that have been buzzing around the underground scene, but with their latest track “Suit Up,” they’ve made it clear they’re not here to be ignored. Coming from diverse backgrounds—TRA4DUCE, born in Seaford, Delaware, and raised in Melbourne, Florida—this dynamic duo has crafted a sound that embodies both their journey and their ambition. For TRA4DUCE, who has traveled up and down the East Coast as a child and now aspires to break through the ceilings of life as a husband and father, Suit Up is more than just a track. It’s a battle cry.

The track kicks off with a beat that grabs you from the very first moment. Smoke, the producer, deserves massive credit for this pied-piper-like call-to-arms—a heavy flute and drum loop that sets the tone for the journey ahead. It’s the kind of beat that gets under your skin, and before you know it, you’re nodding along, mentally preparing for the lyrical barrage about to hit.

TRA4DUCE wastes no time laying out the stakes. His opening lines hit hard, “Make a nigga want to suit up, look into my young boy’s eyes, make my blood pressure rise, nigga time to get the pie.” There’s something visceral about the way he connects personal responsibility, rising economic pressures, and the urgency of making moves. With rent skyrocketing and wallets thinning, Suit Up becomes a metaphor for stepping into the fray—taking control when life’s weight feels unbearable. It’s a declaration of survival in a world where the odds are constantly shifting.

Then comes KingTaeInThisBitch, who ramps up the energy with a dizzying display of wordplay and metaphor. His verse drips with punchlines, and every line feels like a jab at complacency. In one breath, he’s making Mortal Kombat references, and in the next, he’s invoking the dark history of MK Ultra—the infamous government brainwashing program. It’s a masterclass in using double entendre to create layers of meaning, and while you’re still unpacking one line, he hits you with another. Tae’s ability to fuse pop culture with history, all while keeping the energy frenetic, is a standout moment on the track.

Just when you think the track has hit its peak, Silas1wolf steps in to carry it home. His verse matches the intensity of his predecessors but introduces a unique flavor. Known for his high-pitched ad-libs and punchy phrases, Silas1wolf adds a level of ear candy that makes you want to rewind and catch every nuance. He spits lines like “illuminate a light bearer when the darkness taints” with the kind of conviction that makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger. And when he says, “Let me get this straight, no Karma Sutra up in your place, watch us renovate breaking walls and bending rules,” it’s clear that Suit Up is about more than just surviving—it’s about rewriting the script entirely.

For TRA4DUCE, this track is deeply personal. As someone who’s seen the ups and downs of life across different states and seasons, his journey is about more than just individual success. He’s a husband, a father, and a man on a mission to become not just a cornerstone but a stepping stone for others. Suit Up isn’t just a track about getting by; it’s about breaking through and helping others do the same.

In Suit Up, TRA4DUCE, SILAS1WOLF, and KingTaeInThisBitch deliver a track that’s as heavy in message as it is in sound. The beat, courtesy of Smoke, is the perfect battlefield for the lyrical soldiers to march upon. Each verse is a rallying cry, a demand to face the pressures of life head-on and come out stronger. With Suit Up, the stakes are high, and the time is now—so, are you ready to suit up?

SEELONCE Drops New Wave Anthem "Begone": A Journey Through Loss and Rhythmic Complexity

On January 29, 2024, the band SEELONCE released their latest single, “Begone,” a high-energy, new wave track that reflects the band's evolving sound. Infused with a catchy yet poignant vibe, “Begone” grapples with themes of impermanence and the things we never really hold onto. The song invites listeners into a sonic space where vibrant beats and reflective lyrics collide, creating an upbeat yet introspective anthem about loss.

SEELONCE, a Canadian trio formed in 2021, first made waves with their self-titled debut EP under the Acre Alley label, which is based in Nova Scotia. The band consists of Philippe Blouin on vocals, guitar, and keyboards, Julien Simard on bass and synths, and Maxime Boucher on drums and percussion. Their dynamic as a trio allows them to experiment with various influences while keeping their sound cohesive and recognizable.

The band’s name, Seelonce, is borrowed from a naval command used to call for silence on radio frequencies. This connection to silence is ironic given the layered and rich textures of their music. However, it highlights an interesting contrast: while their name suggests quiet, their music is anything but.

SEELONCE has a knack for blending rhythmic and musical elements in a way that feels both simple and intricate. Their signature sound effortlessly straddles genres like folk, pop, and psych-rock, drawing inspiration from different eras. In “Begone,” this balance is palpable. The rhythm section drives the song forward with an infectious pulse, while intricate synth and guitar melodies overlay a modern, new wave-inspired beat.

Lyrically, “Begone” delves into the idea of things “always already lost,” a philosophical meditation on impermanence and the fleeting nature of life. This theme is reinforced by the track’s urgent tempo and driving percussion, which seems to push the listener forward as if mimicking the relentless passage of time.

Philippe Blouin’s vocals strike a balance between emotional intensity and cool detachment, allowing the listener to interpret the lyrics in their own way. Meanwhile, Julien Simard’s bass lines provide a steady foundation, and Maxime Boucher’s percussion adds dynamic texture, building a rhythmic complexity that contrasts with the song's apparent simplicity.

As they push the boundaries of folk, pop, and psych-rock, they also manage to create music that feels deeply personal and universally relatable. “Begone” is not just a song about loss, but a reflection on the transient nature of existence itself, wrapped in a rhythmic, danceable package. If “Begone” is any indication, SEELONCE is on a path to greater recognition, proving that their take on “seelonce”—musical silence—will not come anytime soon. Instead, they’ll keep making noise, and we’ll be listening.
